A day in the Life of a Lifecycle Delivery Driver

“The best part of my day is chatting with customers—whether it’s a quick catch-up or helping a new café get started, it’s always something different. No two days are ever the same. It’s also great knowing that what we do makes a real difference—helping businesses run smoothly while supporting sustainability by recycling used oil the right way.”  Zoe Williams, Lifecycle Oils Van Driver, Willenhall

A Day in the Life of Our Cooking Oil Delivery Team

At the heart of our operation is a dedicated team committed to sustainability, safety, and outstanding customer service. A typical day in the life of one of our cooking oil delivery drivers is a well-coordinated balance of logistics, community connection, and environmental responsibility.

Starting the Day: Team Briefing and Preparation

The day begins early at the depot with a team debrief. This is an important moment to align on the day’s objectives, discuss any updates or changes to procedures, and raise any issues from the previous day. Collaboration is key—by starting together, we ensure the whole team is informed and supported.

Next, our drivers meet with the depot manager to review the job list for the day. This includes planning routes, confirming customer orders, and noting any special requirements or new site visits. Clear communication at this stage sets the tone for a smooth and efficient day.

Once the schedule is confirmed, it’s time to load the van. Each driver checks their stock of fresh cooking oil and ensures there’s sufficient capacity for collecting used oil. We also conduct a thorough health and safety check of all equipment—our team never compromises when it comes to safety.

On the Road: Serving Local Businesses

With everything in order, our drivers head out on the road to begin their rounds. The first stops often involve delivering fresh cooking oil to a range of customers, from bustling high street cafés to national restaurant chains. As part of our full-service offering, we also collect used cooking oil for safe and sustainable recycling.

It’s not just about logistics—our team enjoys the opportunity to connect with local business owners and kitchen team. These face-to-face interactions help build strong relationships and trust. Some of our regulars even greet our team with a warm smile and a fresh cup of coffee, which always makes the day even better!

Midday Check-in: Lunch and Review

Halfway through the day, our drivers take a well-earned break for lunch. This is also a great time to review how the day is going—checking stock levels, confirming remaining stops, and addressing any unexpected challenges. Flexibility and problem-solving are essential skills in the field.

Continuing the Route: Variety and Responsibility

The afternoon continues with more deliveries and oil collections. Each location is different, offering a mix of independent food outlets and larger chains. Our drivers enjoy discovering the unique character of each town and neighborhood they visit—it’s one of the hidden perks of the job.

Throughout the day, strict health and safety practices are followed, and all used cooking oil collections are documented with waste transfer notes, which are issued to every customer.

End of Day: Return and Reset

As the day winds down, our team returns to the depot for a final debrief with the microsite manager. This is a chance to report on the day’s work, share any customer feedback, and flag any operational concerns.

Before clocking off, each driver ensures their van is cleaned, ready to hit the road again tomorrow. Maintaining high standards is a source of pride for the team—and it makes all the difference.

Closing Thoughts

Behind every delivery is a team that values reliability, sustainability, and service. Our drivers are more than just transport—they’re brand ambassadors, environmental stewards, and friendly faces to the customers we serve each day. Their work ensures kitchens across the UK stay running smoothly, and that used oil is responsibly managed for a cleaner future.
